COMMITTEE

Get in touch
Jess

President/ Female Welfare

Your message was successfully sent!

Hi I'm Jess. I'm a 3rd year Sociology student who hopes to specialise in areas of gender and gender identity. I spend most of my free time playing hockey in the uni team, watching cartoons and getting lost on an endless trail of Buzzfeed articles.

My responsibilities as president are to take a lead role in the society and guide the committee. This year I'll be holding fortnightly meetings about LGBTQ+ related news issues, running a few campaigns and awareness days and will be working within the committee to help make the society as great as it possibly can be. I've also taken on the role as female welfare where I will work with Sam and Amy to ensure the wellbeing of all society members by running a tumblr blog full of useful resources and keeping you all updated of any projects through a welfare vlog, also get in contact with us through the welfare phone or the welfare email adress if you have any issues or problems. I am also a member of the students union council as the LGBTQ+ representative so can help to voice any issues individuals have to the students union to help make uni life better.

Read below on all the info on the committee, we're a great team and you can get in touch with us with any questions, queries or through either the box at the top of this page or the society email.

Cameron

Socials and Events

Hi I'm Cameron. I'm a 2nd year Biochemistry student who hopes to specialise in research of biochemical disease and disease management. You can often see me with a camera in my hand, or watching Netflix (12 solid hours of Orange Is The New Black is acceptable, right?).

My responsibilities as social executive are to take a lead role in the organisation of the committee socials and the events we will run. This year I'll be running several LGBTQ+ focused events and hope to run several campaigns throughout the year with the help of the committee to help make the society as known, and welcoming as it possibly can be. I also hope to, with the help of the committee, organise some trips to pride events or LGBTQ+ themed events, as well as have some drag nights. With this role I also hope to ensure a feeling of acceptance within the society and help anyone who may be wanting to or who have just come out.

If anyone is having any troubles with LGBTQ+ related issues, or general enquiries, please speak to a member of the committee or contact the wellbeing team within uni. See you at Freshers!

Karl

Treasurer and Secretary

Hey hey! I'm Karl and my last name sounds like a sneeze (no, really, it does). I'm in my fourth and final year of an integrated Chemistry masters course. You can probably find me either lost inside a video game, inside Greggs buying 3+ pasties, or secretly listening to bad cheesey pop music that I pretend not to like.

My responsibilities as the treasurer/secretary include; handling the society's budget throughout the year as well as working with the rest of the committee to plan fundraising events, and also being in charge of our newsletter. Alongside these duties, you can find me at our weekly socials helping create a friendly, welcoming, and safe environment.

Please feel free to drop me a message any time, whether by facebook, university email or through this website. I genuinelly don't mind if it's to discuss something serious, or just for a chat, I'm here to help and to listen. :)

Sam

Hello I'm Sam, I'm a third year Sociology student who specialises in sexuality and gender identity. I'm obsessed with drinking green tea and vanilla lattés, I take Mario Kart a little bit too seriously and I am the owner of many jazzy shirts.

My responsibilities as male welfare are to ensure the wellbeing of all members of the society and to promote a safe and positive enviroment for all LGBTQ+ students. I will be working with Jess who has taken the role as female welfare to run a Tumblr blog full of useful resources and responding to any queries sent to the page. I will also be in charge of the welfare phone in which Jess, Amy and I will be availble for completely anonymous contact. We are also available for contact through the welfare email, and will be keeping you all updated of any projects through a welfare vlog. I shall also be present for all the society events and socials throughout the year.

If you wish to conatact either me, Amy or Jess we are available for anonymous contact through the welfare phone, through the welfare email and Tumblr.

Lily/Andre

Trans & Non-binary Welfare

Hi, I'm Lily or Andre, I use  both names interchangeably. I use the pronouns they/them or other gender neutral ones. I am a 1st year Textile Art Student and Intersectional Feminist. I love all aspects of the art world, always in the mood for a good exhibition or documentary about medieval embroidery. I enjoy cooking vegan food and walking through the muddy woods.

My responsibilities as trans/non-binary welfare are to ensure members of our society have an experience that is as enjoyable as possible. It will be my job to ensure any trans/non-binary members of our society feel welcomed, and also to make sure they have the support they need. I will be responsible for answering any trans/non-binary related queries we receive, and I can be contacted along with Sam and Jess through the society page and group on Facebook, the website, he tumblr, the welfare phone, and through e-mail.
